Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is searching for a Sr. Backend Application Developer to support our work for the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), an institute of the National Institutes of Health. This opportunity is full time and onsite at the NIH-NCBI in Bethesda, MD and/or remote work.

 Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Work as a member of a team building scalable APIs using Kotlin
  • Help build ETL pipelines to source any external data required
  • Integrate with external service providers
  • Write automated tests that support the delivery of quality software
  • Understand and support your application’s path to production
  • Operate within an agile development process

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or scientific field (engineering, physics), or equivalent experience  
  • 5+ years of experience delivering resilient, well-tested, consumer-facing web applications written in Java or Kotlin
  • 3+ year of experience operating in a service-oriented environment
  • 2+ years working fundamental Java and backend application technologies: Spring Boot, Kotr, Hibernate, JPA, Rest APIs, Docker, Kubernetes, Grade, and GIT
  • 2+ years’ experience writing automated tests

Preferred Qualifications

  • A good understanding of the fundamental technologies of the web: HTTP, SSL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JSON
  • A general understanding of containerization
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the willingness to use them
  • A willingness to learn and to share your own experience
  • A strong sense of ownership and engagement

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and location. The targeted range for this position is $110,000 - $166,810.
