ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.
Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.
This position is reliant upon funding and may be subject to modification or termination based on resource availability.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Classroom Aide to support adult learners in an English language learning environment. The aide will work closely with the English Language Instructors to provide individualized and small group support in two of the three English classes held on-site at our Lombard location. The primary focus is to help learners build oral literacy skills and prepare for language proficiency assessments.
Schedule Requirement: Tues/Thurs 9AM-12PM, once a month Monday from 2:30-4PM; 12 hours per week
This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until 6/30/26 and contingent upon funding extension.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the instructor in delivering lessons by supporting learners during class activities.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to learners, focusing on speaking, listening, and vocabulary development.
- Help learners practice oral communication skills through structured and informal interactions.
- Support learners in understanding and completing assessment preparation materials.
- Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to the instructor.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment for adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Assist with classroom setup, materials distribution, and other logistical tasks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Mature and personal Christian faith
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
- Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs , , and
- Experience working with English language learners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with instructional staff.
- TESOL Certified
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with emergent literacy learners.
- Flexible and easygoing.
$21 - $24 an hour
