Redwood Credit Union is seeking a Network Engineer who supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure, scalable, and high-performance network infrastructure across the organization. This role ensures the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of network systems while aligning with Redwood Credit Union’s strategic goals and compliance standards. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable connectivity, troubleshoot issues, and support ongoing infrastructure modernization efforts. The team ensures mission critical systems are operating securely 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
Network Operations & Engineering
• Design, deploy, and administer LAN/WAN/SD-WAN infrastructure, wireless networks, and cloud-based networking solutions and environments
• Monitor network performance using tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, and Wireshark; identify and resolve bottlenecks, outages, improvement opportunities, security vulnerabilities, and efficiency improvements.
• Support network hardware lifecycle management including routers, switches, firewalls (including Checkpoint, and Cisco ASA), and wireless access points.
• Participate in network upgrades, patching, and configuration changes with minimal downtime.
• Maintain accurate documentation including network diagrams, configuration records, and change logs. Security & Compliance
• Implement and maintain network security protocols including firewalls, VPNs (IPSec, SSL, and site-to-site), IDS/IPS, and Zero Trust principles
• Administer and monitor Checkpoint firewall appliances and VPN gateways, ensuring secure remote access and perimeter defense
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., NCUA, PCI-DSS)
• Respond to security alerts and participate in incident response and forensic investigations. Conduct periodic reviews of access controls, firewall rules, and vulnerability scans.
Infrastructure Support & Collaboration
• Provide Tier 2/3 support for network-related issues and escalate as needed.
• Work closely with Systems, DevOps, and Application teams to support infrastructure needs.
• Assist in remote site deployments, including ISP coordination, switch installations, and wireless configuration.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Professional Development & Leadership
• Stay current with emerging technologies including cloud networking (Azure, AWS), SD-WAN, and automation tools.
• Contribute to departmental goals and initiatives (e.g., data center upgrades, cloud projects).
• Mentor junior staff and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions.

Minimum Qualification: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, and VLANs.
- Experience with Cisco, F5, and Checkpoint networking and security equipment.
- Familiarity with cloud networking, SD-WAN, and remote access technologies including VPNs (IPSec, SSL).
- Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- After-hours, holiday and weekend support is occasionally required.
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
Licenses and Certifications
- CCNA or equivalent required; CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or cloud certifications (Azure/AWS) preferred.
- Checkpoint Certified Security Administrator (CCSA) or equivalent is a plus. Physical Requirements
- Ability to move or lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to hardware installation.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
- Work environment is indoors; majority of the time is spent sitting at a desk.
The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field and four years’ experience in a networking – related role
Compensation: Base starting range: $119,000 to $147,000 annually commensurate with experience.
Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity.
