About The Team
The Visual Effects Art internship at Insomniac Games is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in game production. As an intern, you’ll be part of a fast-paced, creative studio environment and contribute directly to the development of a AAA game.
You’ll work alongside experienced artists, learn industry tools and workflows, and receive mentorship from senior team members as you explore the Insomniac process for creating high-quality visual effects. By the end of the summer, you’ll have earned a AAA game credit for your resume and developed a deeper understanding of professional VFX production.
What You’ll Do
- 
Polish assets and create visual effects from scratch 
- 
Design materials for visual effects, including meshes and particles 
- 
Set dress levels and cinematics with visual effects 
- 
Optimize visual effects to ensure strong performance 
- 
Work in Maya, Photoshop, Houdini, and proprietary tools 
- 
Collaborate with team members to meet production milestones 
- 
Develop teamwork and communication skills essential for game development 
- 
Partner closely with the VFX department to learn industry-standard techniques

What We’re Looking For
- 
Current enrollment in an accredited university Undergraduate program pursuing a B.F.A. in Computer Art, Illustration, Game Design, Product Design, or equivalent, with graduation expected between May 2025 and Spring 2027. 
- 
Strong foundational and production design skills 
- 
Proficiency in Maya, Photoshop, and a real-time toolset such as Unreal or Unity 
- 
Energetic, self-motivated, creative, and responsible individuals with a passion for video games and art 
Eligibility
- 
Students with expected graduation between December 2026 and Spring 2027 from an accredited university. Undergraduate 
- 
Able to work during one of the following periods: May 18th - August 7th or June 15th - September 4th. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates. 
- 
Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. 
Intern Pay Range
$33.25 - $40 USD
