About The Team
Technical Artists at Insomniac Games use their technical ability and artistic versatility to design, develop, and maintain features that support our content creation pipelines and processes. They work closely with artists and programmers to build efficient, high-performance tools that bring environments and characters to life.
This internship focuses on the development and optimization of shaders to create stunning visual effects while maintaining strong rendering performance. Interns will gain hands-on experience working across multiple disciplines, learning how technology and art come together in real-time game production.
What You’ll Do
- 
Design and implement small-scale shaders to support content creators (Environment Art, Character Team) in developing game assets 
- 
Collaborate with artists and programmers to implement creative, technical solutions 
- 
Maintain and update existing shaders for various in-game applications 
- 
Debug and fix materialgraphs 
- 
Document technical implementation details 
- 
Develop sample content to test new workflows and tools 
- 
Continuously expand knowledge of technological developments in the game industry 
- 
Other duties may be assigned

What We’re Looking For
- 
Current enrollment in an accredited university Undergraduate program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or a related field, with graduation expected between December 2026 and Spring 2027. 
- 
Proficiency in shader programming languages such as HLSL 
- 
Experience with real-time rendering and graphics pipelines 
- 
Strong understanding of 3D math and algorithms related to computer graphics 
- 
Experience optimizing shaders for performance and quality 
- 
Familiarity with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine 
- 
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills 
- 
Strong communication and collaboration skills with artists and programmers 
- 
Knowledge of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) and post-processing effects 
- 
Passion for staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies 
Eligibility
- 
Students with expected graduation between May 2025 and Spring 2027 from an accredited university. Undergraduate 
- 
Able to work during one of the following periods: May 18th - August 7th or June 15th - September 4th. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates. 
- 
Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. 
Intern Pay Range
$41.50 - $50 USD
