Who You Are:
You are an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly motivated tax professional with a deep understanding of Indirect Tax compliance requirements and the rigor required to operate in a rapidly growing global SaaS company. You are a true individual contributor, someone who thrives on owning the entire tax function, from high-level strategy to detailed execution. You have a strong command of US and International tax regulations and a proven ability to manage outsourced compliance partners to ensure accuracy and timeliness. You’ve successfully built and scaled indirect tax processes and are comfortable building procedures from the ground up, including establishing compliance calendars and configuring software. You thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and are proactive, highly organized, and capable of managing complex, cross-functional projects independently. You are an excellent communicator who can translate complex tax needs to internal stakeholders, and you are passionate about educating colleagues on practical tax requirements and proactively identifying areas of risk.

What You’ll Be Doing:

    • Global Compliance & Risk Management: You will manage the end-to-end indirect tax compliance process, including all U.S. (Sales/Use, B&O, Gross Receipts) and international (VAT/GST/HST) returns. This involves overseeing outsourced compliance partners, managing tax calendars, handling exemption certificates, and responding to all tax notices. Crucially, you will proactively identify, analyze, and quantify areas of tax risk and non-compliance, then prioritize and develop remediation plans based on materiality and strategic importance.
    • Tax Technology & E-Invoicing: You'll lead the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of indirect tax engines and automation tools to ensure accurate calculation and reporting. A key part of this role is researching, evaluating, and implementing global e-invoicing solutions to meet new jurisdictional mandates. You will continuously evaluate new software solutions , provide detailed cost-benefit analyses, and manage the forecasting for all tax technology costs.
    • Cross-Functional Project Management: You will serve as the primary tax project manager, coordinating between the finance , operations , and software engineering teams. Your responsibility is to ensure all necessary compliance updates, system configurations, and tax requirements for new product launches are clearly communicated, scoped, and executed successfully and on time.
    • Process, Strategy, & Audit Defense: You will develop, document, and maintain scalable tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to build a robust audit defense. This includes identifying and acting on opportunities for process improvement and tax recovery, such as maximising claims for input tax credits , and ensuring all country-specific laws, like invoice requirements, are met.
    • Financial Operations: You will own the financial reporting for indirect taxes, which includes preparing and reviewing tax-related journal entries, performing monthly account reconciliations, and ensuring all related financial data is accurate and timely.

What You’ll Bring:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • 8+ years of progressive indirect tax experience, preferably in a global, high-growth environment (SaaS/technology industry experience is a major plus).
    • Proven ability to thrive as a hands-on individual contributor, capable of managing a high volume of complex work and driving cross-functional projects to completion.
    • Expert-level knowledge of U.S. sales/use tax and international (VAT/GST) principles and compliance requirements.
    • Direct, hands-on experience implementing, managing, and optimising indirect tax engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, Sovos) and ERP integrations.
    • Experience managing the performance, deliverables, and budgets of external tax consultants and advisors.
    • Exceptional project management skills, with a proven ability to lead complex initiatives between tax, finance, operations, and engineering teams.
    • A proactive, "builder" mindset with a talent for creating, documenting, and scaling processes from the ground up.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort analyzing large, complex data sets.
    • CPA license, CMI designation, or Masters in Taxation preferred.
