In our group the engineering technician plays a critical role in accelerating the development of our products by providing direct support to the design engineer. Although the location of the position is in Newton NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Essential Job Functions include the following , but are not limited to: Create Engineering Change Orders and update revision-controlled documents Performs product development activities including but not limited to creating and supporting design specifications and documentation requirements. Assists in the development and maintenance of design standards and ensures product is repeatable and manufacturability. Maintains accurate product documentation and work instructions while provides technical support to the assembly departments. Assists in solid modeling, create and/or check machine prints Interacts with vendors for design of components and prototyping Create test reports and perform product testing based on customer inquiries Create Assembly Instructions and do the initial training with assembly floor Maintain the design and development lab and equipment Requirements Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools. Experience: 1 - 2 years of experience in a technical field Education: High School diploma or equivalent Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Experience with 3-D modeling applications and techniques. Possess basic mechanical aptitude. Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues Experience working with hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment Good written and verbal communication skills Strong attention to detail. Strong ability to work well in a team environment, and comply with high quality standards. Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities. Ability to function autonomously with little direction/works well independently of others.
