The Workplace Health Specialist plays a key role in promoting employee health, wellness, and safety within the workplace. This position is responsible for managing workers’ compensation cases, coordinating occupational health services, and guiding supervisors and employees through health-related workplace incidents. Additionally, the specialist supports ergonomic assessments, early intervention for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), and related injury prevention programs. The Workplace Health Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and management of critical EHS programs and training to ensure regulatory compliance while promoting a culture of learning and operational excellence.
Requirements:
- Workers’ Compensation Case Management
- Serve as the primary contact for all workers’ compensation claims.
- Coordinate medical treatment, follow-up care, and return-to-work programs in collaboration with employees, supervisors, HR, and insurance carriers.
- Maintain accurate documentation of cases, ensuring compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.
- Analyze injury trends and recommend preventive measures.
- Workplace Health Coordination
- Authorize and coordinate occupational health clinic visits, medical evaluations, and fit-for-duty screenings as needed.
- Liaise with occupational health providers to ensure continuity of care and timely communication of medical restrictions.
- Ensure all occupational health activities align with company policies and regulatory standards (OSHA, ADA, HIPAA).
- Provide consultation and guidance to supervisors and affected employees on injury management, fitness for duty, and modified duty options.
- Educate employees on reporting procedures and available health resources.
- Partner with People and EHS teams to ensure consistent case management.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of workplace health programs and policies.
- Ergonomics & Early Intervention
- Conduct ergonomic assessments for office and industrial work environments.
- Develop and implement ergonomic programs to reduce musculoskeletal risks
- Support early intervention strategies for employees reporting discomfort or early symptoms of MSDs.
- Track and analyze ergonomic trends to improve workplace design and employee health.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Nursing, or related field required.
- 3–5 years of experience in workers’ compensation, occupational health, or EHS case management.
- Experience with ergonomics, injury prevention, and employee health programs strongly preferred.
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent credential.
- Ergonomics certification or training desirable.
Preferred Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment supporting workers’ compensation, case management, ergonomics,
- Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, OSHA regulations, and occupational health principles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive medical and personal information confidentially.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
- Problem-solving and analytical mindset with attention to detail. Proven track record of developing and implementing effective EHS programs and initiatives, with a focus on injury prevention and risk reduction.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex situations, identify trends, and develop data-driven solutions.
- Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS software applications for data management and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional standing and walking within the office.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
- Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports.
- Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies.
- Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages).
