The Role
Based in Redwood City, CA and reporting to the Principal of Rocketship Redwood City Prep, the Manager of Language & Literacy will directly oversee and drive academic achievement for students and build a rigorous college preparatory environment. They will be a member of the school leadership team and instructional leadership team, and will work  closely with their principal to lead and implement the instructional vision for one to three grade levels. The Manager of Language & Literacy will manage, coach, & lead teachers, ensuring that all learners, including multilingual learners, thrive academically, linguistically, and socially. This leader will champion research-based practices in behavior management, literacy and language development, while ensuring alignment with Rocketship’s mission to close the achievement gap. This position is contingent on term-limited supplemental funding and will be reassessed annually

Essential Functions: 

Instructional Leadership & Coaching

    • Foster a rigorous and college preparatory culture of excellence in every classroom that ensures high levels of student achievement.
    • Lead the implementation of core ELA & Humanities programming, including Designated ELD and support Integrated ELD across all content areas.
    • Coach teachers to build content expertise in humanities, language, and literacy
    • Model lessons and co-teach to support high-quality instruction for all learners.
    • Ensure at least 1.5 years of progress for all Rocketeers annually through management and planning.
    • Partner with the Principal and Instructional School Leader Team to integrate language and literacy goals into the school-wide instructional plan.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Teaching: Manager of Language & Literacy  will at times be required to step in and teach to either model for teachers, provide assistance to teachers or the school community, or to more deeply internalize the school model. Additionally, as part of onboarding, may be expected to teach for three or more weeks to learn the curriculum and model.

Data & Progress Monitoring

    • Engage in cycles of data driven instruction and assessments to inform planning and personalize instruction to student needs in order to accelerate both English proficiency and  grade-level content mastery
    • Engage in daily data analysis to inform content focus areas, teacher development plans, and personalized instruction for all students. 
    • Analyze data (e.g., ELPAC, internal literacy benchmarks, classroom performance) to monitor progress and adjust supports.
    • Oversee systems for core ELA programming and identification, placement, and reclassification of multilingual learners.

Professional Development & Capacity Building

    • Design and facilitate professional learning for staff on overall classroom management, humanities, literacy, language acquisition, and selected school-wide focus areas.
    • Ensure that staff are trained to provide equitable access to grade-level content for all students, including multilingual learners.
    • Collaborate with regional and network-level teams to share best practices and maintain consistency across Rocketship schools.

Qualifications

    • Required
    • BA from an accredited universityValid teaching credential
    • 3+ years of experience teaching in urban city classrooms and realizing significant gains
    • Result-oriented and data-driven
    • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop othersAdaptable and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
    • Ability to engage and empower parents and familiesAt least 2 years of experience working with multilingual learners in K–5 settings
    • Strong knowledge of language acquisition theory and literacy development
    • Strong leadership skills and personal drive
    • Preferred
    • Master’s Degree in TESOL, Education, or related field
    • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (highly preferred in this community)
    • Familiarity with ELPAC, CA ELD Standards, and Common Core alignment for multilingual learners
    • Experience with MTSS and language supports across tiers
    • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with families and staff

Additional Details

    • Position follows the school-based calendar with paid holidays and traditional school breaks.
    • Salary is competitive and based on experience.

$102,000 - $120,000 a year

Compensation:
